Constant Magnification Focusing

For a video demonstration of the change in image magnification with focus of a standard camera optical system, and its improvement when an external telecentric stop is added to the lens, follow the link below and select the “Telecentric Optics” shortcut. Note that the resulting system does not exhibit true Constant Relative Magnification. See my paper in Applied Optics , or contact me for more details.

Kestrel Corporation applies an amazingly broad range of advanced optical and electro-optical technologies to problems in the Environmental and Medical fields. For airborne remote sensing, they have developed hyperspectral imaging cameras that are small, rugged, and reliable, and have applied these instruments to obtain important environmental data in several countries around the world. They have also built similar instruments for space-borne applications; one of these became the first hyperspectral imager to successfully acquire data from an orbiting satellite. In the biomedical field they are using hyperspectral imaging together with such technologies as wavefront sensing and adaptive optics to research and develop innovative diagnostics for the human body.

Allred & Associates Inc. designs, develops and prototypes medical instruments; primarily for large medical device companies. They have special expertise in surgical handpieces and in MRI-compatible equipment. The President of the firm, J. B. Allred, is the best mechanical engineer that I have ever had the honor to work with.
